How to make Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Such a fun snack to share with your loved ones!
Is there anything better than chocolate covered strawberries on Valentines Day? I feel like they are just apart of the holiday! Am I right?
I am going to be honest, I am not someone who normally celebrates Valentines Day that much! I feel like it is more of a holiday wrapped around buying instead of spending time with loved ones. However, the chocolate covered strawberries and cinnamon hearts always pull me in!
Holidays can make having special treats and eating healthy tricky! Normally the sweet treats are conveniently unhealthy for you but taste so good and bring back every good memory you have around that holiday! It can be frustrating when you are trying to celebrate with friends and family and you are hoping to choose more of a healthier option and still get the full on nostalgic feelings flowing! I get it! I know I personally find it hard to not connect food with a particular holiday! Ginger snaps at Christmas, Chocolate eggs for easter, Pumpkin pie for thanks giving, and chocolate covered strawberries for Valentines day!

What is one holiday food that you love so much and what holiday do you connect it with?
Food can also be such a great way to connect with family and friends over the holidays. Making it alongside one another, sharing dishes and recipes. Sharing meals together or gifting them. It can be hard when you are trying to nourish your body differently.
If you are looking to trying to nourish your body with healthy foods the holidays can seem stressful or unenjoyable. They can begin to feel like they are being bogged down by making the right choice – to fuel your body with wholesome foods or to enjoy the holiday connections through food. No one wants this!
Over the years I have been trying to alter those classic meals/treats attached to holidays so that I can enjoy them physically, mentally and emotionally!

I have definitely not mastered many but I do think that this altered Chocolate Covered Strawberries recipe is meant to be shared and repeated!
Its not your classic hard chocolate shell sweet inside, it is more of a creamy soft outside with a sweet inside! I think you are going to like em!
You can’t start making these with out knowing what you need so here:
What you need to make Healthy Chocolate Covered Strawberries:
1 1/2 Tsp Cocoa Powder
1/4 cup Whole Plain Yogurt
Strawberries washed and dried
Skewers
Tips When Buying the Ingredients
Make sure to look at your yogurt options! I like to go for a more fuller fat option with no added ingredients like sugar, sweeteners or flavours. Especially with this recipe if you accidentally grab a sweetened yogurt it will change the flavour for sure!
When buying cocoa powder make sure you are only buying the powder and nothing added like sweeteners or, colours! They aren’t necessary and take away from the natural nutrients you can get from eating cocoa!
Strawberries in the winter are a hot commodity! I normally shop in season which means I am not eating strawberries till June but for this one day I splurge. I buy fresh strawberries that cost an arm and a leg! If that isn’t in your budget you could buy frozen strawberries instead! Just make sure to keep them frozen up until you eat them because they will get soft and melty on you!
Now the most important part of this whole activity is to keep it in your budget! Buy what you can at the budget what works best for you! There is no need to empty your pockets for a little sweet treat!

How to make Healthy Chocolate Covered Strawberries
First you are going to need a sealable container! This is to ensure that if you have leftovers you can store it in the fridge in an airtight container!
Next you are going to scoop out a 1/4 cup of 100% plain yogurt into your container.
Then you are going to measure out 1 1/2 teaspoons worth of cocoa powder. Pour it into the yogurt and stir! Make sure to stir well. You don’t want any clumps of cocoa floating around and you don’t want any missed yogurt spots!
Now you are going to put your yogurt mixture aside and pull out the strawberries.
Rinse off the strawberries and dry them off thoroughly! Making sure they are dry is important for the final stage!
Lastly grab your skewers and begin to stick the strawberries through the top! Dip the strawberries into the yogurt chocolate mix and eat ’em up!
If you want to spice up this recipe you can sprinkle cocoa nibs, coconut flakes, sprinkles over the chocolate mix! You can also freeze them to make a harder shell around the strawberries!
The whole recipe should only take you 10 minutes to whip up! A perfect Valentines day party treat or an after dinner dessert!
